ILOILO City – Three hundred more housing units will be built in this southern city for informal settlers affected by government infrastructure projects.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, National Housing Authority (NHA) general manager Joeben Tai and Iloilo City’s Rep. Julienne Baronda led the groundbreaking for the housing project dubbed “Iloilo City People’s Residences” in Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro district.
Five low-rise buildings with 300 housing units will be constructed; funds will come from the General Appropriation Act (GAA).
Each housing unit has a floor area of 24 square meters and a livable space of two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a garage.
Tai said NHA continuously collaborates with other government agencies and local government units to build more housing for the Filipino people.
“We are also here to look at other proposed sites for future projects. Hopefully, we could return and have more groundbreaking,” said Tai.
Tai was joined by Iloilo City’s Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon on behalf of Mayor Jerry Treñas, NHA-6 manager Engineer Rizalino G. Cabahug, Iloilo/Guimaras District Manager Fe T. Jamoyot, Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) head Rony Firmeza, and other city officials during the event.
The People’s Residences is just one of the housing projects facilitated for funding by Baronda. The 300-unit housing project is just phase one; there will be 300 additional units under phase two.
Baronda said this project is in line with the thrust of the Treñas administration to provide more affordable housing for the Ilonggos.
“I am very thankful sa subong nga (Marcos) administration. I am more than thankful to GM Tai because he really vouched to support us para mapadayon ini nga proyekto kag ma-make sure nga mapundohan,” she said./PN
