BORACAY – Twelve houses were totally gutted when fire hit a residential area in this world-famous island last Tuesday night.
The cause of the blaze that hit Sitio Bulabog, Barangay Balabag was still not available as of this writing.
But the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – which responded to the area after receiving a fire call around 7:40 p.m. on Feb. 26 – said no one was killed or hurt.
Boracay Fire Rescue and Ambulance Volunteers, Boracay Island Water Company and Boracay Tubi System also helped in putting out the blaze.
The houses were made of light materials, which allowed the fast spread of fire. Strong winds also made it hard for responders to control the fire.
A “fire out” was declared at around 9:15 p.m.
A total of 12 families were affected. The Malay municipal government and the local Social Welfare and Development Office already extended them assistance.
Last Jan. 27, fire also razed 35 houses and three commercial buildings in Barangay Manoc-Manoc, also in Boracay. (With Akean Forum Journal/PN)
