Night market in Bacolod resumes

BACOLOD City – The night market on Ballesteros Street here has resumed.

City Administrator Pacifico Maghari III advised the vendors to follow the rules and regulations provided under the night market ordinance.

Vendors who are residents of this city and members of vendors associations are the first to qualify for night market slots every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight.

Maghari said the city government wants to level-up the night market by allowing a variety of goods to sell.

The night market, which is only experimental from September to October, can help displaced vendors affected by the road clearing, particularly in the downtown area, said Maghari.

Authored by former city councilor Caesar Distrito, City Ordinance (CO) No. 08-14-666, known as the night market ordinance, was crafted to provide policies in the establishment of night market in certain areas of the city and to allow vendors to extend their operation for additional income.

Under the said ordinance is the creation of the night market committee that will supervise the operation of the night market and decide on giving priority to sidewalk vendors who voluntarily dismantled their stalls.

To recall, the operation of the night market was suspended last July. Maghari said that time that its resumption will depend on the Sangguniang Panlungsod market committee./PN
