TO express gratitude to the people who helped the company reach almost four decades in the print journalism industry, Panay News, Inc. once again gave recognition to its loyal employees who continue to provide invaluable contribution and service.

The company believes its employees are key to its continuing success – particularly to the recognition of Panay News as the No. 1 regional newspaper for 37 years already.
It hopes that, through the annual recognition program – held during its year-end event at the Regatta Hotel in Iloilo City on Dec. 23, 2017 – its employees will continue to be motivated and inspired to perform well as they reach new heights in the years to come.

‘GO, OPERATIONS!’
Operations Department Supervisor Ramil Sotomil was awarded as Outstanding Leader while Operations was recognized as the Most Improved Department.

For Sotomil, who has been the Operations Department supervisor for three years already, working at the leading newspaper in Western Visayas is a rare opportunity and in itself a huge achievement.
He considers the awards that he and his department recently received as a “bonus” and an “unexpected gift.” According to Sotomil, he was just doing his job.

“Na-surprise ako nga, within just three years bilang supervisor, mangin Outstanding Leader ako,” he says.
Sotomil refused to take all the credit. He says the teamwork that his printing machine operators have shown that year contributed to his and their department’s recognition.

“Indi ko man masiling nga akon lang ni kay ang mga tinawo ko man, gindala man nila ako sa amon department,” he says.
Sotomil has actually been with Panay News for 10 years already.
He was formerly a layout artist at the company’s Editorial Department. He started in October 2007 and has also been recognized for his creative work – he was the Layout Artist of the Year in 2014 and 2015.

NEOPHYTE RULES
Photojournalist Ian Paul Cordero proved that being a newbie is not a hindrance to being an effective employee – and bagging one of the most coveted corporate awards among Panay News’ journalists.
More than a year into taking high-quality news and feature photographs and dabbling into news reporting, Cordero was recognized by the management as the Journalist of the Year and the Rookie of the Year.
These awards, Cordero says, encourage him to be more dedicated in capturing more newsworthy and creative images to contribute to the paper’s quality content.

“It’s an achievement, but it doesn’t stop there. It’s a challenge to do better,” Cordero says. “Para bala makahambal ka nga dapat, next year, ako naman liwat makuha nga Journalist of the Year. It’s about setting a higher standard.”
HARD WORK PAYS OFF
For his outstanding overall dedication to his work, Operator Rex Sorial was awarded as Employee of the Year. Sorial says he is grateful to Panay News for giving its employees recognition befitting of their efforts.
Before he was acknowledged as a top Panay News, Inc. employee, Sorial has also been recognized as Operator of the Year for three consecutive years.

SALES, LOYALTY COUNT
Marketing Executive Elizabeth Bernardo posted the highest advertising sales in 2017, making her the indisputable recipient of the Account Executive of the Year award.
Bernardo is also the company’s most senior staffer, having been working at the Marketing Department for 32 years already – and is thus one of the recipients of the Loyalty Award.

She started working at Panay News in 1986 when she was 25 years old. Until now Bernardo continues to be a very active marketing executive inside and outside the office.
Bernardo says she will be forever glad that she is working at the paper – an opportunity that she is very happy to have be given.
“Proud and very happy gid ako kay isa ka daku nga achievement sa kabuhi ko ang nabaton ko nga mga awards,” she says.
Like the other recognized employees, Bernardo is even more inspired to give her best for the region’s most read newspaper./PN
