MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has not monitored any destabilization plot against President Rodrigo Duterte and the government.

“We will be conferring with other government agencies. But in so far as the AFP is concerned, we have not monitored any such destabilization plan,” said AFP chief of public affairs, Colonel Edgar Arevalo.

He reiterated that the military would not allow any attempt to undermine the stability of the government.
“We will frustrate any effort that will cause the disruption of our democratic way of life. That is, and shall always be, our commitment to the nation and our people,” said Arevalo.

Earlier reports claimed a still unidentified group is attempting to destabilize the Duterte administration.

Senators belonging to the Liberal Party shrugged off reports that there were plans to overthrow the Duterte administration, noting that Defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana has confirmed the non-existence of such plot.

“Walang destab. Walang conspiracy ang partido, ang LP. Hindi siya involved dito. In fact, kahit si Secretary Lorenzana mismo ang nagsasabi na walang ouster o walang destab plot (There’s no destabilization plot. The LP is not party to any conspiracy. It is not involved here. In fact, Secretary Lorenzana himself said that there’s no ouster or destab plot),” said Sen. Francis Pangilinan.

He also said it was no longer new for the LP to be accused of scheming against the administration since a year ago.
“Eh dati na ‘yan eh. Paulit-ulit na ‘yan…basta mayroong gusto silang sisihin, pinakamadaling gawin ay sisihin ang LP. Hindi na ito naiiba dun (That’s old news. It’s repetitive. As long as they have got someone to blame, it’s always the LP),” he added.

Criticizing the government should not be immediately associated with destabilization plots or that critics were “enemies of the State”, stressed Pangilinan.
Sen. Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, like Pangilinan, also denied the accusation.
“Ang mga paratang na ‘yan ay gawa-gawa lamang (We are not involved in any ouster plot. Those accusations are fabrications),” Aquino said. (PNA)
