
BACOLOD City – There were no major untoward incidents that happened in the city on Easter Sunday, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office(CDRRMO) reported.
Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas,CDRRMO cluster head, said the celebration was “peaceful” as there had been no cases of drowning.
CDRRMO personnel only responded to alerts from individuals who got seashell-inflicted wounds, he added.
According to Vargas, holidaymakers are now more careful but the CDRRMO still prepared measures in case of emergency.
Resort owners in the city have also been cooperative as they hired duly certified lifeguards and provided them withlifeguard equipment in line with City Ordinance 749.
The ordinance aims to “prevent swimming accidents, ensure the safety of resort/pool goers, and preserve the state of the readiness of the swimming or bathing area particularly in times of emergencies.”
Violators of the ordinance are penalized depending on the level of offense. For first offense, they are fined P2,000 and/or five to 10 days of imprisonment.
For second offense, violators are fined P3,000 and/or 11 to 15 days of imprisonment and for third offense, P5,000 and/or 16 to 30 days of imprisonment./PN
