BACOLOD City – Schools in this city were reminded to keep graduation ceremonies simple.
The Department of Education (DepEd) school year 2016-2017 ends this month.
All schools must avoid elegant graduation rites and celebrations, City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas said, citing DepEd Order No. 8 series of 2017.
Schools are prohibited from collecting any graduation fee from parents. Expenditures for graduation rites were supposedly included in their maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE), the order stated.
A P250 MOOE budget has been allotted for every graduate, Demavivas said.
Teachers were also reminded not to require graduating students to wear toga; school uniforms may be used, the DepEd said.
Meanwhile Demavivas asked the teachers to be transparent when preparing their honor rolls.
Teachers must avoid favoritism and give grades that are “just,” she stressed./PN
