IT’S that once in a blue moon occasion once again: When I think Mocha Uson is actually offering a sensible opinion and I agree with the lady Duterte fanatic and her impassioned Facebook tirades.
“Ang tunay na mga taga silbi sa marilitang Pilipino,” posted Uson on her page that now boasts an audience of more than 5 million, along with the hashtags #ConfirmGina #ConfirmJudy #ConfirmKaPaeng, and cartoon portraits of the embattled Cabinet members.
“Sabi nila masyado daw passionate si [secretary] Gina minsan padalos-dalos o hindi nag iisip,” she added in a subsequent post. “Mas gusto ko na sa kanya kesa naman sa mga nakaraang DENR secretary na puro talino kuno.”
Her lengthy rant continues in all caps: “SA TOTOO LANG ANG BAYAN NATIN PUNO NA NG MATATALINONG PULITIKO MULA SA EXECUTIVE, LEGISLATIVE HANGGANG SA JUDICIARY PERO WALANG MGA PUSO PARA SA TAUMBAYAN.”
“Daming nag mamagaling wala naman nagawa nitong mga nakaraang gobyerno natin. Wag mo sabihin hanggang ngayon magmamarunong pa din sila at ayaw i-confirm si Sec. Gina?” stressed the blogger born Margaux Uson. “Buti nga meron tayong katulad niya na hindi na susuhulan eh. Ayaw nila pa dahil unconventional approach niya? Pwede ba tigil nila na yang pag mamarunong nila.”
The Commission on Appointments has set the confirmation hearings of DSWD chief Judy Taguiwalo, Agrarian reform secretary Rafael “Ka Paeng” Mariano and Lopez on May 3 at the Senate.
However, all three of these Duterte appointees are facing aggressive opposition from the entrenched powers who see the progressive views of Taguiwalo, Mariano and Lopez as a threat against their interests.
Gina is opposed by big mining firms. Ka Paeng’s confirmation is opposed by big landlords and hacienda owners. Judy’s confirmation is opposed by lawmakers who wish to continue the practice of informal pork barrel involving DSWD funds.
According to the CA rules, if they are bypassed for a third time, they cannot be reappointed on an interim basis. The CA will have to decide whether to confirm or reject their appointments on Wednesday.
There is an urgent need to show broad support for the Duterte Cabinet members who truly champion our President’s pro-people agenda, and thwart plans by the CA to confirm only those who wish to uphold “business as usual” politics. It is not every day that we have Cabinet officials who truly work for the interests of the masses and defy the interest of the exploiting one percent.
Mocha Uson attests to the passion and hard work of these Cabinet secretaries, especially Gina Lopez, whom she accompanied during a visit to a mining site last week.
“Si Sec. Gina parang si Tatay Digong din. Tatlong lugar ang pinuntahan namin using chopper at habang nasa chopper kami she is working pa rin. Sa Duterte Administration kailangan talaga masipag ka kasi mapapag-iwanan ka,” Uson posted on April 21.
“Isa lang po ang masasabi ko, kailangan natin ng mga katulad ni Ma’am Gina Lopez sa gobyerno. Para siyang si PRRD, walang kapaguran sa trabaho!” (rhickalbay@gmail.com/PN)
