ANTIQUE – The Antique Provincial Veterinary (ProVet) Office will maintain its intensified African Swine Fever (ASF) border checkpoints even during the holidays.

Dr. Marco Rafael Ardamil, ProVet public health division head, said on Wednesday they will deploy personnel at the border checkpoints in Hamtic and Anini-y towns in the southern part of Antique, and Pandan and Libertad in the north on Christmas and New Year’s eve and on Rizal Day, Dec. 30.

“We appeal to the people to observe the ban on pork and pork-based products,” he said.

In October, Gov. Rhodora Cadiao issued Executive Order (EO) 229 intensifying the border checkpoints.

Meanwhile, Ardamil said the price of live hog has now reached P140 per kilogram from P120 last month because of the high demand in Luzon where ASF is also present.

Ardamil assured Antiqueños there is a sufficient supply of pork in the market for the holidays. (PNA)/PN
