‘No local virus spread in NegOcc’

BACOLOD City – Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has reaffirmed the public that there is still no local transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 in Negros Occidental.

Lacson asserted this despite a suspected local spread of the viral illness in this capital city, saying authorities have yet to record any local transmissions.

Mostly overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the latest cases recorded by the provincial government all had travel histories outside the province, according to the governor.

The most recent to test positive were Patients No. 5 and 6, who recently arrived in the country from Brazil and Dubai, respectively. Patient No. 5 is a resident of La Castellana, while Patient No. 6 is from Escalante City.
Lacson said that after learning the results of the patients last week, health officials immediately moved them to the Provincial Healing Center in E.B. Magalona for treatment.

“The province’s health protocol requires returning Negrenses to be quarantined at the Provincial Healing Center either in E.B. Magalona or the Mambukal Resort in Murcia,” he added.

These oversea OFWs cannot directly go home unless cleared by the provincial government, which is only after they have completed the 14-day mandatory quarantine at the provincial government-designated facility./PN
