No more Christmas lights at Bacolod plaza

BACOLOD City – This city’s public plaza is no longer hosting the annual holiday lights spectacle.

This will be moved to the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds, with the official lights-on ceremony scheduled for Dec. 2.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez cited multiple reasons for the change, including traffic disruptions caused by vendors selling near the plaza.

Councilor Jason Villarosa, chair of the city council’s tourism committee, confirmed the new location outside the BCGC, where preparations for the event are underway.

The Christmas Festival of Lights, now on its 15th year, will see a route change, with students from STI-West Negros University parading to the BCGC.

The city government has earmarked approximately P1 million for the festival, as per a local ordinance./PN
