MANILA — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) intends to completely remove the shortage in driver’s license cards by September.
Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista made this announcement on Wednesday.
He also said pending licenses are expected to be delivered within this month.
These pieces of cards are around 120,000 to 130,000.
“We’re expecting our licenses to be delivered by next week. Initially, it’s just a little by little. By September, all our pending cards will have been delivered, which should be issued,” Bautista said.
The Secretary also clarified his earlier statement where he had said there were about 500,000 pending licenses.
“Remember on April 24, there was a Memorandum Circular extending the validity of licenses expiring in April 24 to October 31. By September, we will be able to issue all of these licenses as well,” he recalled.
Meanwhile, motorists who were issued paper licenses may also get the physical license cards beginning next month.
“Maybe around August or by September, all of these, we can already provide,” Bautista said.
He also reported motorists may already access their electronic driver’s license (eDL).
This is through the online portal of Land Transportation Office called Transportation Management System or LTMS.
The e-DLs may be used as alternative identification cards. (Zacarian Sarao © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
