KALIBO, Aklan – There won’t be a province-wide lockdown in Aklan but restrictions would be made more strict due to rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Gov. Florencio Miraflores also reminded residents to follow the minimum health standards – wearing of face mask, physical distancing and proper washing of hands.
Aklan is under a modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
Last week, local officials called for tougher curbs as daily COVID-19 cases soared. Over 40 infected Aklanons are currently in hospitals while 484 are isolating in quarantine facilities (as of June 8).
The province’s COVID-1 9 death toll is now 67.
Miraflores’ Executive Order No. 005-C issued on June 8 detailing new restrictions also covered pregnant women, persons with comorbidities, people less than 15 years of age and more than 65 years old. They must stay home.
The province-wide curfew is from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Only travel for essential needs is allowed.
Gatherings or cultural celebrations are banned, and so are alcoholic beverages.
Amusement parks, cockfighting arenas, e-sabong, bars, playrooms and fair/peryas are banned from opening.
Residents crossing municipalities are required to present travel passes.
The Department of Health has classified Aklan’s risk of infection as moderate.
“Ang mga protocols ay kailangan nating higpitan. Naging kampante tayo, dahil dito tumaas ang kaso ng COVID-19,” said Miraflores./PN
