MANILA – Paul Asi Taulava and Cyrus Baguio agreed to extend their contracts with the NLEX Road Warriors.
According to Road Warriors vice president Ronald Dulatre, the 47-year-old Taulava and 40-year-old Baguio wish to hang their jerseys after the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup, which remains suspended due to coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
“December na ang new contract nila Taulava and Baguio,” Dulatre said in a short reply over the weekend.
Taulava earlier said he wanted to retire after the 2019 PBA season. However, their heartbreaking exit in the Governors’ Cup against the NorthPort Batang Pier forced him to play another conference.
“I didn’t want my last year to end like how it was in my rookie year — get swept in the quarterfinals. That was the motivation to lace my shoes back up,” he stressed.
Baguio, for his part, delayed his retirement as he wants to win his first Philippine Cup trophy.
“Nag-request ako kay coach Yeng Guiao (na mag-extend) kasi never pa ako nag-champion sa All-Filipino Conference. Hopefully pumasok kami ng Finals para maganda exit,” he pointed out./PN
