ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas’ medical team has ruled out cancer following his successful bile duct operation at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City on Nov. 11.

In a statement, Treñas expressed his heartfelt gratitude to God for the successful outcome of his recent operation, sharing the good news that no signs of cancer were detected.

Treñas shared that, as advised by his doctor, he will need a period of rest and recovery following his bile duct operation.

He announced that he planned to return to Iloilo two weeks after his discharge and extended his thanks to everyone who offered prayers and stormed the heavens for his recovery.

Treñas earlier announced that his surgery went smoothly, and his doctors have advised him to focus on recovery in the coming days. He thanked especially Dr. Anthony Perez, who led the procedure.

Treñas also acknowledged the efforts of the nurses and doctors, highlighting Dr. Gaudencio Franco, his godson, for his tireless support.

“Sa tanan nga nag-upod sa pag-ampo kag nagbulig para sa akon operasyon kahapon, akon guid ginapasalamatan ang inyo suporta kag pagpakig-angot sa Ginoo,” he said, thanking all those who prayed for him.

Treñas extended special thanks to his wife Rosalie, their children, and their spouses for being by his side during the surgery and recovery.

He also expressed gratitude to his core group, classmates, friends, family, and the Ilonggo community for their unwavering prayers and support.

“Ginapasalamatan ko kamo tanan sa inyo padayon nga suporta kag pangamuyo,” he said, adding that he drew strength from their collective faith and encouragement.

Following his doctor’s advice, Treñas said he would take time to rest and recover but shared his excitement about returning to Iloilo City to celebrate his birthday with the community next month. He also asked for continued prayers for his fast and complete recovery.

Treñas recently announced his decision not to seek re-election, stating that stepping down would be in the best interest of Team Uswag and Iloilo City.

To ensure continuity in leadership and the sustained implementation of his programs and vision, he has endorsed his daughter, Raisa Treñas-Chu, as his successor in the upcoming elections.

Reflecting on his unwavering commitment to public service, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas shared, “I have always believed there is nothing we cannot do if we do it together. We can accomplish so much if we are united and think as one Ilonggo family for the good of our future generations.”

Even as he focuses on his recovery from bile duct surgery, the mayor remains optimistic about Iloilo City’s progress and unity.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has appointed Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna as the acting vice mayor of Iloilo City, with Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon stepping in as the acting mayor during Mayor Jerry P. Treñas’s recovery from his surgery.

This temporary shift in leadership ensures the stability and continuity of city governance while the mayor is on medical leave.

DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos issued a memorandum outlining Cabaluna’s designation, with a reminder that his duties as acting vice mayor exclude any decisions related to DILG Memo Circular No. 2019-21./PN
