WHILE his opponent Lucas Matthysse decided to retire for good from boxing, newly crowned WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is not about to slow down from his sport even if he was already diagnosed with a heart ailment.
The Filipino ring icon said that he is in fact scouting for an opponent for his Dec. 2 ring return. Among those being considered are former tormentor Jeff Horn, former sparring partner Amir Khan, Terence Crawford, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Vasyl Lomachenko.
“Wala pa [kaming napipiling kalaban]. [Pero we are] planning ang fight sa Dec. 2,” said Pacquiao. “My heart is healthy. I feel stronger and younger than ever. My heart will continue to beat with love and compassion for our people.”
“Wala namang problema sa family dahil iyong doktor naman pag-check up sa akin, tiningnan iyong puso ko, wala naman nakitang problema. Healthy naman,” he added. “Maganda rin na tiningnan iyong puso ko.”
His publicist Aquiles Zonio wrote in an article on Philboxing.com recently that Pacquiao had undergone an angiogram in Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital on July 8 after complaining that he had difficulty in breathing during training.
“Pacquiao was rushed to the hospital around 3 p.m. on July 8 after he complained about difficulty in breathing several times during the duration of his preparation for the July 15 Matthysse fight,” said Zonio.
“Pacquiao claimed that, after the angiogram, the doctors told him he is suffering from an ‘inborn heart ailment’ and was advised to call off the July 15 fight but Pacquiao insisted,” he added.
Pacquiao did not show any sign of his ailment during his match where he scored three knockdowns against Matthysse en route to a seventh-round stoppage victory in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The competing teams were divided into three divisions – North, Central Negros and Southern Negros. Among the categories are Born 2010 and Above, Born 2008 and Above, Born 2006 and Above, and Born 2001 and Above.
North is composed of Don Bosco Technical Institute-Victorias, Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Memorial Elementary School – Victorias, Sagay City, and Cadiz City.
Central Negros has University of St. La Salle Integrated School, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Rams, Bata Tigers, Montevista, Mabini FC, St. Scholastica’s Academy, Kanlaon HIJOS Football Club, St. John’s FC, Rizal Elementary School, Villa Angela, Universal, Sikatz-Sum-ag, and Trinity Christian School.
Southern Negros features San Enrique, Pontevedra FC, Bago FC, Himamaylan FC, Dancalan Ilog, and La Carlota City.
Since starting in 2013, the DFL continuously provided opportunities for children to develop their skills and character on and off the pitch, according to league chairman Andrew Infante.
“And to ensure that the coaches have the capacity to handle their respective teams, the league required them to have a minimum license to join the tournament,” Infante said.
“Refresher courses and trainings for referees are also held regularly to provide quality officiating,” he added. “Our competition is sanctioned by the Negros Occidental Football Association.”/PN
