BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) had started enforcing the “no terminal policy” downtown.
The policy is in line with City Ordinance (CO) 338 which prohibits public utility vehicles parked at illegal terminals; private vehicles, motorcycles and tricycles parked on the streets and sidewalks, carinderias, etc.
BTAO is the traffic enforcement arm of the city government.
It should be strict in enforcing the policy to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, according to Councilor Al Victor Espino, chairman of the committee on transportation in the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
It was observed during the past administration that public utility jeepneys plying the routes of Alijis to downtown area and Mansilingan to downtown (area vice versa) made the streets of Luzuriaga and Gatuslao their terminal.
Drivers of these routes insist there is an existing memorandum of agreement (MOA) between them and the city government allowing them to park thereat.
But BTAO advised them to secure a new MOA with the present administration.
Aside from public utility vehicles, the BTAO is also strictly implementing the no parking policy along the streets of Luzuriaga, Gonzaga, Gatuslao, Araneta, and Lacson./PN
