MANILA – There are no threats against the life of former Negros Oriental congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr., the suspected mastermind in the murder of Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo, said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

According to the Chief Executive, the government did not receive any report on supposed threats against Teves.

“Sa lahat ng mga sinasabi ni Arnie Teves, takot siya sa buhay niya. Wala kaming report na ganoon. Walang nagbabanta sa buhay niya,” Marcos said.

Teves is facing multiple murder charges for the killing of Degamo and others at the home of the then-governor in Negros Oriental on March 4, 2023.

The former lawmaker was arrested in Dili, Timor Leste last month while playing golf after he was placed on the INTERPOL red notice last February.

Currently, Teves is still under the custody of Timor-Leste authorities as they are still processing his deportation to the Philippines.

The camp of Teves, however, is planning to bring his case before the United Nations Human Rights Council to avoid possible deportation.

Aside from the murder of Degamo, Teves and others have also been charged with the deaths of three individuals in Negros Oriental in 2019.

Teves was designated as a terrorist along with 11 others by the Anti-Terrorism Council in June 2023 and was expelled from his elective position in August, 2023./PN
