‘No vaxx, no entry’ at Kalibo airport

KALIBO, Aklan – Travelers are required to show proof of vaccination before they can board local carriers at Kalibo International Airport.

The vaccine-based travel rules are imposed to restrict the movements of unvaccinated individuals on the premises of Kalibo airport. The ‘no vaccination, no entry’ policy will remain in effect while the province of Aklan is under Alert Level 3.

The new policy has been implemented on January 17, 2022, as ordered by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) through Department Order-2022-00.

Kalibo airport manager Engr. Eusebio Monserate, Jr. said the policy covers passengers, employees, and guests entering the airport premises unless the individual is qualified for the exemptions.

Unvaccinated individuals with underlying conditions and those traveling to procure essential supplies and for medical reasons are exempted.

Two Kalibo airport employees so far remain unvaccinated. One employee is required to submit a swab or nasal swab test result in every two weeks, while another employee has an existing medical condition.

Unvaccinated people are more likely to contract and transmit the virus that causes the Covid-19, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since the pandemic, the Kalibo airport has reminded passengers and non-passengers to wear masks and observe social distancing to limit the spread of the virus./PN
