BACOLOD City â The caretaker of the North Public Cemetery has yet to explain about the niches and remains found missing last month.
According to City Legal Office (CLO) head Joselito Bayatan, the city government has yet to send Ricardo Repogio a formal notice to explain.
Eduardo Tesura, Rusty and Estela Suela, and Renato Gayanilo complained that the remains of their departed and the niches where they were kept went missing.
An extension of a mausoleum was allegedly built in their stead.
While they find the complaints âsufficient,â investigators have yet to verify the claims with Repogio, Bayatan said.
For now âwe will give him (Repogio) the presumption of regularity,â assuming he was just going about with his routine, said the CLO chief.
That the North Public Cemetery was crowded makes the situation complicated for investigators, Bayatan said.
Repogio alleged that cemetery âcontractorâ Winston Mullner was responsible for demolition and replacement of tombs.
Mullner was a job-order casual employee of the city government but had already been laid off, said Bayatan.
If enough basis and evidence are found, Repogio may be charged administratively, possibly with gross neglect of duty, simple neglect of duty or a conduct unbecoming of a public employee, the city legal officer said./PN
