DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez on Monday said that some brands of Noche Buena items and canned goods were requesting for a price increase.
In a public briefing, Lopez said that the possible price hike would cover the increases in the production cost of the concerned brands.
“Wide po ‘yung range na hinihingi nila, from less than one percent to about three percent doon sa mga application,” he said.
“Ito po ay inaaral ngayon ng ating consumer protection group kung reasonable ang mga increase. At kung hindi man ay babawasan ang increase na hinihingi nila,” he added.
For Noche Buena items, Lopez said only around five of the 20 brands were requesting for a price increase.
Lopez thus advised consumers to patronize good quality but reasonably priced products. The DTI chief also noted that promos would be available in the market during the Christmas season.(GMA News)
