NOCPPO braces for Marcos inauguration protests

BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) is wary of possible mass protests during the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., on June 30 and on his first day in office on July 1.

“We are really expecting nga may amu na, but diri sa Negros Occidental wala pa man ta news nga gin feed sa amun kun may ara,” said Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, NOCPPO spokesperson.

Nevertheless, said  Donasco, it is better for the NOCPO to be prepared.

Marcos’ inauguration on June 30 is at the National Museum grounds in Metro Manila.

Progressive groups such as the human rights alliance Karapatan-Negros Island have openly rejected the win of Marcos and his running-mate, Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio.

In Negros Occidental, Marcos lost narrowly the presidential race. He got 482,344 votes against Vice President Leni Robredo’s 527,321.

In Bacolod City, however, Marcos won. He had 121,179 votes against Robredo’s 112,051 votes.

After Marcos was proclaimed the winner of the presidential elections recently, Karapatan issued the following statement:

“With the proclamation of Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte as president and vice president respectively, we can only expect the worst of times for the state of human rights, justice and accountability in the Philippines, as well as the best of times for the struggle and resistance against tyranny, oppression and genuine democracy.

“We will not relent in exacting accountability, in pursuing justice for victims of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances, in pushing for the release of political prisoners, among many other agenda for people’s rights.”/PN
