BACOLOD City – The top official of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) has warned Negrenses against persons claiming to be him to extort money or material things.
Colonel Romy Palgue, officer-in-charge of NOCPPO, said persons behind the illegal activity are part of a syndicate soliciting for something by calling potential victims through mobile phones.
In a call to a certain person, the suspect claimed that he was the provincial police chief and solicited construction materials.
“We have traced the number. The person’s location is not here. He’s in a different place,” Palgue said on June 26, noting that he learned about the modus operandi after the person who received the call informed him about it.
Palgue said he has endorsed the case to the concerned unit of the Philippine National Police that will go after the syndicate.
“I hope we can put an end to this so that this will not happen again,” he added.
The NOCPPO top cop has urged the residents who might receive a call from suspicious persons to immediately report the incident to the police so they can immediately act on it.
Last year, his predecessor, retired Colonel Romeo Baleros, also warned Negrenses to be aware of posers who pretended to be him and asked for cellular phone loads.
At the time, a project contractor and a government employee were victimized. Each of them gave P5,000 worth of load cards to the suspect. (With a report from PNA/PN)
