BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) is finalizing its security plans for the upcoming Holy Week as well as its Oplan Summer Vacation (Oplan SumVac).
Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, NOCPPO spokesperson, said usual Holy Week activities such as processions and Senakulo are expected to return this year following the relaxation of health protocols.
Senakulo is a drama presentation depicting the passion of Jesus Christ held during Holy Thursday or Good Friday.
NOCPPO said they are expecting the return of the Senakulo in the cities of Cadiz, Talisay and La Carlota.
Police personnel will be deployed in places of worship, and beaches and mountain resorts. A surge in holiday goers is expected.
Police assistance desks will be set up in churches and resorts, too.
Responding to the concern of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson that checkpoints may scare away foreign tourists, Catalogo said NOCPPO’s checkpoints are currently concentrated in Hinoba-an town, bordering Negros Oriental.
NOCPPO intensified checkpoint operations in the town following the massacre of nine people, including Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo, in Pamplona town on March 4./PN
