BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) is considering increasing security measures in public schools.

NOCPPO spokesperson Police Captain Judesses Catalogo said they will coordinate with the Department of Education (DepEd) over the proposed increase in police presence.

Catalogo said it would be up to the DepEd as well as the principals and local school boards if strict monitoring of students would be necessary.

Previously, several crime incidents involving students were reported at the Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The first incident took place in April when a senior high school student threatened a tricycle driver with a grenade and brought it inside the school.

The student was also found to be carrying dried marijuana leaves.

On May 10, police arrested another senior high school student after a security guard and teacher from the same school recovered dried marijuana during a search.

Suicide incidents were also recorded in several other schools in the province, the latest being an LGBTQ student who attempted to take his own life./PN
