NOCPPO to enforce gun ban for Panaad sa Negros

BACOLOD City – A province-wide gun ban will be enforced as part of the security measures for the comeback of the Panaad sa Negros Festival this year.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) will suspend all permits to carry firearms outside of residence from 12:01 a.m. of April 17 until 11:59 p.m. of April 23.

Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, NOCPPO spokesperson, said the gun ban was suggested by the festival committee to prevent firearm-related incidents as well as to prevent the flow of contraband.

As several high-profile guests and elected officials could also attend the festivities, Catalogo said the gun ban would also ensure their safety.

Earlier, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz confirmed that Tourism secretary Christina Garcia Frasco is the only high-profile guest who confirmed in writing her intent to attend the opening ceremonies.

Diaz is hoping that others they have invited will issue confirmations, too.

Panaad sa Negros Festival is dubbed the “Festival of all Festivals” in Negros Occidental.

All 31 participating local government units showcase the best they could offer in culture, sports, food, and tourism.

The event would also be held for the first time following a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic./PN
