BACOLOD City – Over 300 students of Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) have tested negative for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
This came after the school saw an increase in the number of students who presented flu-like symptoms, said NOHS Medical Officer III Shila Blancia in a radio interview.
According to Blancia, some students showing up for school despite having a fever and not receiving proper medication may have caused the spread of the illness.
Students who had fallen ill inside the school were immediately brought to the clinic for a check-up and medication and were immediately sent home to recover.
At present, Blancia said their supply of medicines and facemasks for ill students is running out, adding that their office is open to accepting donations.
The Department of Education last week reinstated its directive for students and school staff to don facemasks after certain schools in this city and Negros Occidental province reported a rise in flu-like cases.
Ian Arnold Arnaiz, the Public Information Officer of DepEd-Negros Occidental, said the masking directive came highly recommended by the department’s medical team as a protective measure against communicable diseases. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
