MANILA – Iloilo United Royals banked on Mark Nonoy’s career outing to score a 104-100 overtime victory against 1Bataan Risers in the 2024 MPBL season on Tuesday night at the Paco Arena in Manila.
The La Carlota City, Negros Occidental-native Nonoy tallied a career-high of 32 points, including four three-point conversions, to go with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals as the United Royals improved to a 9-17 win-loss slate.
“Nagpapasalamat ako kay Lord sa lakas na ibinigay nila sa amin para makahabol sa larong ito, and credit din sa teammates ko na tumulong sa akin, hindi ko rin naman kayang mag isa ito eh,” Nonoy said.
“Sobrang thankful ako sa experience ko dito sa MPBL, nagpapasalamat ako sa Iloilo management na kahit matagal akong nawala, tinanggap pa din nila ako sa team na ito,” added the 5-foot-9 guard.
Ilonggo Clint Doliguez posted a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds, Ry dela Rosa contributed 17 markers, including five triples, and Adrian Santos tallied a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds for Iloilo.
After completing their fightback in the regulation period, the United Royals opened the extension period with conversions from Nonoy and Doliguez to establish a 97-93 advantage.
The Risers responded with their own shots to tie the score at 97-all, but the United Royals got two free throws from Gab Gomez and a triple from Doliguez to take a 102-97 lead with 48 seconds remaining.
The Risers made their last push at 100-102 on a three-point conversion from Jeff Santos, but two free throws from Nonoy with three seconds remaining sealed the win for the United Royals.
Yves Sazon finished with a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds, Edrian Ramirez and Mitchelle Maynes added 14 and 12 markers, respectively, as the Risers dropped to 9-18 win-loss slate.
The United Royals still has two games remaining in their schedule against Valenzuela City Dynacast on September 24 at the WES Arena in Valenzuela City and Sarangani Marlins on September 28 at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila./PN
