Nonoy hits the mark as DLSU prevails over UE in UAAP

MANILA – De La Salle University Green Archers relied on the explosive game of Mark Nonoy to score an 86-76 victory over University of the East Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The La Carlota City, Negros Occidental-native tallied season-high 25 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, as the Final Four-bound Green Archers improved to 9-3 win-loss slate.

Kevin Quiambao registered another triple-double of 17 points, 19 rebounds, and 12 assists to go with four steals and two blocks, while Raven Cortez contributed 11 points for the Green Archers.

Down 15-25 early in the second quarter, the Green Archers turned things around behind Nonoy, Quiambao and Jonnel Policarpio as they established a 49-38 advantage at the half.

The Red Warriors countered with a run to start the third quarter as they took a slim 54-52 lead, but the Green Archers quickly regained control behind Nonoy and Quiambao to secure their sixth consecutive win.

Noy Remogat finished with 22 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds, while Precious Momowei chipped in a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds while Abdul Sawat got 18 points as the Red Warriors dropped to 4-8.

Defending champions Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles survived a disastrous third quarter, escaping Adamson University Falcons in a defensive battle, 62-58, to boost their Final Four bid.

After being down 29-42 midway in the third quarter, the Blue Eagles stormed back in the game and went up 59-55 after a free throw conversion from Chris Koon with three minutes left.

The Falcons made its last push as it cut the deficit to 58-59 after a Matthew Erolon triple, but free throws by Sean Quitevis and Joseph Obasa secured the win for the Blue Eagles.

Quitevis had a season-high of 12 points to lead the Blue Eagles, while Obasa and Kai Ballungay chipped in 10 markers apiece as they improved to 6-6 slate. The Falcons slipped to 5-7./PN
