MANILA – Margueritte Therese Cala-or of Bacolod Tay Tung High School bagged two gold medals in the elementary category of the 38th NOPSSCEA karatedo event at the CityMall-Mandalagan in Bacolod City.

The Bacolod City native won her first gold medal in the 10-12 years old intermediate kata girls event before following it up with a dominant showing in the kumite girls (-35 kg) on Tuesday.

Despite her young age, Cala-or was already an achiever, having won two gold medals in the karatedo event of the Philippine Sports Commission Visayas Open 2018 Iloilo leg in August.

Representing Negros Occidental, she also bagged a gold medal in the 8-9 years old advance kata in the karatedo event of the 2018 Batang Pinoy National Finals held in September in Baguio City.

“Margueritte is one of our talented athletes and she has a bright future in karatedo,” Bacolod Tay Tung team manager Jose Montalbo told Panay News.

Francis Zohann Kalaw, meanwhile, contributed two silver medals for Tay Tung in novice kata boys 7 years and below and kumite boys 7-9 years old (-25kg), while Paulaine Kalaw also had a silver in novice kata girls 7-9 years old.

In the secondary girls category, Ayumi Mori of Bacolod Tay Tung captured a gold and silver medal in the kata girls 11-13 years old and kumite girls 11-13 years old (-55 kg), respectively./PN
