ROXAS City – NOPSSCEA-University of St. La Salle (USLS) hailed as champions of the 2020 (Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association) (WVPRISAA) Meet Tertiary Football after overpowering ILOPRISAA-Western Institute of Technology (WIT), 5-0, on Monday at the Villareal Stadium of the city.
Charles Dabao, Adrian Janillo, Lean Perez, Harl Barbon and Mark Gumayao fired a goal each for the NOPSSCEA-University of St. La Salle to continue their long streak as kings of private schools collegiate football.
Dabao, Janillo and Perez immediately surged the Negrenses ahead at 3-0 with just 20 minutes into the match following their rapid conversions in the 5th, 15th and 19th minute, respectively.
The ILOPRISAA representatives tried their best to penetrate the walls of NOPSSCEA, but they could unfortunately not trim nor tie the deficit until Barbon and Gumayao fired match-ending 82nd and 88th minute strikes.
NOPSSCEA kicked off the best-of-three titular showdown with the Iloilo representatives on Sunday with a 4-2 penalty shootout escape after the both teams finished full time at 1-1.
However, Negros could not celebrate a double after their secondary boys’ football team got usurped, 2-1, against ILOPRISAA-Central Philippine University (CPU).
The NOPSSCEA team broke the deadlock first with a 30th minute goal from Ryan Moses, but ILOPRISAA-CPU managed to respond with a 58th minute stinging equalizer from Nicko Mamon.
The defeat forced Negros to a do-or-die match against Iloilo slated today./PN
