Not all columns are in the news

THE US PRESIDENT has signed another Executive Order (Executive Order 13967 of Dec. 18, 2020, Promoting Beautiful Federal Civic Architecture) which basically says that all new Federal buildings must be beautiful, which seems to suggest that they will be built in a Greek or Roman style and there will be a lot of columns.

This is probably, but might not be, the most stupid executive order ever signed. Yes, Roman buildings are pretty but the best known, the Coliseum, is starting to lose its glamour and a lot of bricks.

A look at the recent Executive Order shows that there are a few challenges for the most odd ones, including the use of trustworthy A.I. (Executive Order 13960 of Dec. 3, 2020, Promoting the Use of Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence in the Federal Government) in the Federal Government. This could be a goer as there seems to be little natural intelligence and not everyone there is trusted by the President.

One that seems a bit silly is the concern with TikTok (Executive Order 13942 of Aug. 6, 2020, Addressing the Threat Posed by TikTok) where the main danger seems to be the number of videos that satirize President Trump. This fad will soon disappear, not TikTok but satirizing President Trump.

We all look forward to Jan. 20, 2021 and the new US President and less strange proclamations.

This smells a bit odd
The pursuit of profit drives so many enterprises and in that attempt sometimes ā€œcelebritiesā€ are used to enhance the image.

A recent local newspaper edition had a double page spread for a chemist chain that also sold perfumes, but the imagery associated with the individual brands was odd. It appears that most sports people are also industrial chemists and can design new perfumes.

A number had attractive people as their call card, one had Elle, the model’s name. Others were promoted by David Beckham, a great footballer and Star Wars, a very popular series of movies although with a few characters that stank but the one that appealed to a very specific audience was that with the name and image of a popular beer.

Must remember to pour that one on me and not in me. With prices up to $159 per 100ml no testing was conducted by this writer.

Has truth in advertising really gone and fake news now becomes fake smells? Where has honesty gone?

Zero is a very big number
Twitter has decided to dump all of the Trump followers after the inauguration or in reality start again with a zero for the presidential POTUS account. This could mean zero typing mistakes, zero unknown words, zero tweets written in capitals only and zero fake news.

Maybe the incoming President, Jor Biden, not Trump, will know how to communicate to all. That would be a great improvement. (dfitzger@melbpc.org.au/PN)
