CAPIZ – A high-ranking leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) was arrested by joint military and police operatives in Barangay Tapulang, Maayon in this province yesterday morning.
Authorities identified the suspect as Francisco “Ka Tonying” Balois, one of the leaders of Igabon Platoon, Central Front Committee of the Kilusang-Rehiyong Panay allegedly operating in parts of the 2nd District of Capiz and Iloilo Province (Calinog and Bingawan).
The arrest was carried out by the 301st Infantry Brigade, 82nd Infantry Battalion (IB) and 12th IB of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, and Maayon and Cuartero police stations.
Maayon police said Balois was visiting his relatives when he was caught.
The suspect was detained at the Maayon Municipal Police Station. He is facing charges for murder and violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and RA 9516 (illegal possession of explosives)./PN
