BACOLOD City – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel surrendered to government authorities in Hacienda Punong, Barangay Kapitan Ramon, Silay City, Negros Occidental.
Police requested not to identify the surrenderee, a resident of Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City.
Silay policemen and soldiers of the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion had been negotiating with the rebel for some time, and he eventually voluntarily surrendered to the authorities on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 6.
The now-former rebel yielded his 12-gauge shotgun to the police as well as one rifle grenade.
He is now undergoing debriefing and is expected to receive assistance under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program./PN
