MANILA – Negrense jin Ceanne Kyle Rosquillo will soon be kicking his way through the University Athletic Association of the Philippines taekwondo competition after receiving a scholarship from the National University (NU).
According to a Facebook post by Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen, Rosquillo, a 1st Dan Blackbelt jin, gained the nods of NU coaches following his impressive performance in the Palarong Pambansa.
“All his hard work the past few years has paid off as he is now an athletic scholar with the National University,” the Bacolod City-based taekwondo stable said.
The Bago City-born athlete from Negros Occidental High School was a Palarong Pambansa gold medalist and became a part of the national team pool.
Rosquillo’s journey, on the other hand, was not easy, as he was forced to give up taekwondo a few years ago due to financial difficulties.
Following his failed bid in the provincial meet, he was able to re-join the NTU-Tigers New Generation after being endorsed by his former coach Pamela Caminos.
“I am grateful and blessed to my coaches and teammates here at NTU Tigers New Gen as they played a role in my development to a taekwondo jin that I am right now,” the 19-year-old Rosquillo stated.
“I am really thankful for my family’s unwavering support as well as all the others who helped make this journey possible. I am looking forward to my time with the NU Bulldogs,” he added./PN
