MANILA – National University Lady Bulldogs hacked out a 25-20, 25-18, 25-15 straight set win over Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in the Shakey’s Super League playoffs over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.

Mhicaela Belen, the former UAAP Rookie-MVP, unloaded 13 points on 11 attacks and two blocks to headline the Lady Bulldogs’ sweep of the Blue Eagles under the watch of Philippine men’s national team mentor Sergio Veloso.

The Lady Bulldogs, now under mentor Norman Miguel, needed only 84 minutes to take down the Blue Eagles to stay on track for a title retention bid after sweeping the inaugural season.

“Hindi po kami naka-kampante sa game. Lagi naming iniisip na meron pa kaming dapat i-improve which is nagagawa namin sa training kaya pagdating sa game, hindi na kami masyadong nahihirapan,” said Belen.

The Lady Bulldogs stretched its unbeaten run to five games to zero in on a No. 1 seed finish in Pool E, while the Blue Eagles dropped to 2-3 records.

Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses vented its ire on Arellano University Lady Chiefs with a 25-16, 31-29, 25-18 straight set beating.

Jonna Perdido spearheaded the offense with 13 points on 11 attacks and two service aces as the Golden Tigresses stayed at the second spot with a 4-1 record in Pool E.

Incoming rookie Angeline Poyos continued her decent showing for the Golden Tigresses with 12 markers, while Regina Jurado contributed seven points.

Perdido, who was named Player of the Game, said the Golden Tigresses are fired up to bounce back after their 25-19, 25-20, 25-16 defeat to the Lady Bulldogs last Saturday.

“Kami po lahat, parang gigil manalo kasi ang panget ng performance namin against NU kaya po ganoon ‘yung performance namin this game,” said Perdido./PN
