MANILA – The National University Pep Squad retained its throne and reigned supreme in the UAAP Season 82 Cheerdance Competition at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Sampaloc-based cheerdancers wowed the crowd with its Pinoy-inspired routine to garner a total of 722 points and capture on Sunday night its sixth UAAP Cheerdance title in the last seven years.
“There’s no such thing as an easy journey. So for NU Pep Squad, isang mahirap at exciting journey. Lahat siguro ng mga bata is worth it ‘yung pinagpaguran,” NU Pep Squad head coach Ghicka Bernabe said.
She added: “Marami kaming occassions na na-miss dahil sa pagte-training. Marami kaming sinacrifice na events with our families. Ang sabi ko lang sa kanila ay kailangan maging worth it ‘yung lahat ng mga araw na na-miss ninyo with your families kasi mas masarap umuwi ng champion ka.”
Far Eastern University Cheering Squad clinched another runner-up finish with 706 points with its Michael Jackson-inspired performance.
Adamson University Pep Squad pulled off a Caribbean-inspired routine that amassed 658.5 points.
Rouding up the competition were University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe, University of the East Pep Squad, University of the Philippines Pep Squad, Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion, and De La Salle University Animo Squad.
The NU Pep Squad also annexed its dominance over the Group Stunts category as they struck gold besting FEU and Adamson, respectively./PN
