MANILA – National University Lady Bulldogs renewed its mastery of De La Salle University Lady Spikers with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 victory in the one-game finale of the Shakey’s Super League on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Alyssa Solomon, who was later named as tournament MVP and Best Opposite Spiker, top-scored with 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs, which swept all their eight matches in the tournament.

It was a nip-and-tuck battle for the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Spikers in the third frame as both teams exchanged points to start the set until Solomon unleashed a back-to-back ace for a 13-9 advantage.

Bacolodnon Angel Canino carried the load for the Lady Spikers as she scored a series of attacks to tie the match at 14 before eventually snagging the advantage at 16-15 on a block by Mereophe Sharma.

The Lady Bulldogs then regained its form behind consecutive points by Ilongga Princess Robles for a 20-17 upper hand before Mhicaela Belen and Solomon put on the finishing touches for NU.

The Lady Bulldogs triumph over the Lady Spikers was a repeat of the recent UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball Finals where NU also upended La Salle in the championship series.

Aside from Solomon, Belen and Sheena Toring also received individual citations for NU as second Best Outside Spiker and second Best Middle Blocker, while Canino and Thea Gagate bagged the first Best Outside Spiker and first Best Middle Blocker, respectively.

Adamson University Lady Falcons, meanwhile, clinched the third place trophy with a 25-27, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 15-11 beating of University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses. Trisha Tubu led the way for the winning team with 19 points.

Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles finished in fifth place after a 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-12 win over University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons. Alexis Miner tallied nine points, on six attacks, two blocks and a service ace for the Blue Eagles.
