
MANILA – National University Lady Bulldogs moved closer to a UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball first-round sweep after a 25-21, 25-23, 25-18 victory over Adamson University Lady Falcons on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Alyssa Solomon led the way with 22 points, built on 15 attacks, four blocks, and three service aces, to go with five excellent receptions and three excellent digs as the Lady Bulldogs improved to a flawless 6-0 record.
Evangeline Alinsug added 12 markers, while Mhicaela Belen contributed nine points, 12 excellent digs, and five excellent receptions for the Lady Bulldogs, which will conclude their first round against University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses.
“Every day naman naghahanap kami talaga ng mai-improve talaga namin every training talaga. Marami pa naman [improve] kasi syempre ‘yung time na nasa NU ako talagang hindi pa ganung kahaba,” said Lady Bulldogs head coach Sherwin Meneses.
“Pero knowing naman ‘yung NU, meron naman talaga silang sariling talent. Talagang hinahanap namin ‘yung the best na mag-i-improve kami every training tsaka sa every game. I think marami pa (ma-improve),” added Meneses, who coached the Lady Falcons from 2012 to 2016.
Frances Mordi and Shaina Nitura finished with 12 markers apiece for the Lady Falcons, who dropped to a 2-4 record.
Meanwhile, De La Salle University Lady Spikers pummeled arch-rivals Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in straight sets, 25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19.
Shevana Laput delivered a season-high of 25 points, including 19 attacks, three blocks, and service aces, along with six excellent digs and three excellent receptions, as the Lady Spikers notched their third straight win for a 4-2 record.
Negrense Angel Canino added 17 points, comprising 13 attacks and four blocks, while Alleiah Malaluan also made her mark with 12 points, on nine attacks and three blocks, for the Lady Spikers.
Lyann de Guzman stood out for the Blue Eagles with 16 points, including 13 attacks and three blocks, while Alexa Miner contributed 13 points, as the team fell to a 1-5 win-loss record./PN
