Numancia woman shot to death

NUMANCIA, Aklan – Riding-in tandem gunmen killed a woman on a barangay road here on Tuesday, October 5.

Police identified the victim as 41-year-old Jonalyn Arcenio Maribojo, a government bank employee and resident of Barangay Camanci Norte.

The shooting took place at around 8 a.m. in Sitio Looban, Barangay Camanci Norte near a water refilling station.

Maribojo was declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Kalibo, Aklan. She succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Police probers said Maribojo was shot at close range in a parked tricycle parked.

After the shooting, the gunman walked towards a waiting motorcycle and escaped to Barangay Camanci Sur.

Investigators recovered the abandoned motorcycle in a grassy area about 300 meters from the crime scene.

According to a witness, he heard as many as five shots.

“Nakarinig ako ng tatlong putok doon malapit sa trisikel, at dalawang putok ng baril habang papalayo ang mga suspek,” he added.

The gunmen allegedly rode a white Nissan Escape van and fled to the direction of Sitio Tumbalaloy of Barangay Bulwang.

In a radio interview, Aklan provincial police director Colonel Ramir Perlito Perlas said the Numancia municipal police station responded to the crime scene after it received a call of a shooting at around 8:10 a.m.

Police have yet to establish the motive behind the killing of Maribojo.

The gunman was wearing a black jacket and a hat, with a slim build and about 5 feet and 6 inches tall.
