MANILA – A Filipina nurse was abducted in front of her residence in Libya then raped by still unidentified men, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed.
According to the DFA, the victim was forcibly taken by four young Libyan nationals Wednesday morning (Tripoli time).
She was allegedly taken somewhere where she was raped by six men. Two hours later, the Filipina was released.
DFA spokesperson Charles Jose disclosed that the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli took the victim to the hospital for medical check up.
“She is now under the care of the embassy,” Jose said in a statement.
No additional information was provided.
Alert Level 4 remains raised in Libya due to the string of violence occurring in that country.
The DFA urged all Filipino nationals to immediately contact the Philippine Embassy and register for repatriation.
The beheading of a Filipino migrant worker earlier in July by a group of militias in Libya has prompted the Philippine government to elevate the alert level in that North African nation to mandatory evacuation./PN
