ILOILO City – A 21-year-old student of Nursing at Central Philippine University was crowned Miss Iloilo – Universe 2022 on Saturday night at Richmonde Hotel at the Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao district.
Dorothy Marie P. Gemillan (candidate No. 8) of La Paz district was also cited as Best in Evening Gown, Miss Smart 5G and Miss J.S Layson Company.
As Miss Iloilo – Universe 2022, Gemillian won P60,000; P3,000 for being Best in Evening Gown; P5,000 for being Miss Smart 5G; and P10,000 for being the Miss J.S Layson Company and, Inc.
She cemented her claim to the crown with her confident repartee in the Question and Answer portion.
She was asked: “Do you think people have the right to not get vaccinated and why?”
Gemillan answered: “I do believe that people have the right to not get vaccinated. After all it’s a free country. However, it’s what we do with our freedom that counts. And what better way to spend our fredoom than to utilize it a manner that it benefits your personal health and that of your loved ones? Through unity within our community, we about to made as one. One mind, one heart, one victory.”
Gemillan was crowned by Miss Iloilo – Universe 2020 Rabiya Mateo.
Blessie Jay Villablanca (candidate No. 4), a 23-year-old Dentistry student at Iloilo Doctor’s College was proclaimed Miss Iloilo 2022 – Word and took home P60,000 cash prize.
She was also named Miss Photogenic and Best in Swimwear, with each citation coming with a P3,000 cash prize.
Elisha Lorraine Abella (candidate No. 7), a 23-year-old resident of Jaro district, was crowned Miss Iloilo 2022 – Binibini. She also won P60,000.
First runner-up was Tsina Jade D. Chu (P20,000) and second runner-up was Erica P. Doronila from Sara, Iloilo (P20,000).
The other candidates were Angela E. Bolences of Tigbauan, Iloilo; Elli Rose L. Elola of Pavia, Iloilo; and Jessah Jen M. Garbino of Cabatuan, Iloilo./PN
