O, A or X?

A TOPIC trending recently on social media is the use of the term “Filipinx” to address people who are citizens of the Philippines.

This is to not classify the population as purely male-oriented (Filipino) or female-oriented (Filipina). This is similar to the Latinx movement of people who are typically referred to as “Latinos”.

The goal of this is to achieve a non-gender-biased mindset. The old patriarchal practices have given us the default that men represent society. The human race is referred to as “mankind” even though it comprises those of the male and female sex. Men were the ones who made all the rules and decisions.

Then, at around the early 1900s the feminist movement began. Women were sick of being treated as second-class citizens and demanded the right to education and suffrage.

We have come quite a distance since then. Many women now hold positions of authority and are looked upon as self-sufficient. Changing the “derogatory” Os and As with a neutral X seems to prove the point that both sexes are just as powerful as each other.

Strange that you should base feminist principles on the value of a suffix. Perhaps these eccentric feminists overlooked the fact that these suffixes are used as they are easier on the tongue?

If we were to apply Filipinx to Pinoy/or Pinay, it would become “Pinxy”. How would you even read that?

There are girls in some countries that can’t go to school. Girls that get married young. Girls that are raped for fun and not given justice. But what is it that these neo-feminists fight for? The eradication of the letter “O”?

This is the kind of toxic femininity that repels people from actually supporting women’’s rights. Feminists are viewed as bra-loathing, ultra-sensitive man-haters with double standards. How do we expect to get support for issues that really matter when we view anything relating to men, people who can help us, as disgusting?

For me, no sex is better than the other. Toxic Masculinity and Femininity are both wrong and oppressive. Women can be strong and still treat men with respect. Men can be strong and still treat women with respect.

There are bigger issues involving women out there in the world. So for the love of God, can we not get so worked up over a silly suffix?/PN
