JORDAN, Guimaras – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 6 gave the island province of Guimaras 100 sacks of rice through the National Food Authority.
The rice would be distributed to households in locked down neighborhoods or barangays and in various quarantine facilities in Guimaras, according to Cindy Ferrer, spokesperson of OCD-6.
“Ang iban gamiton nila sa pagpakaon sang mga persons nga na-quarantine matapos nga naka-close contact sa confirmed COVID-19 case,” Ferrer told Panay News.
Guimaras is experiencing a surge in cases of coronavirus disease 2019.
Gov. Samuel Gumarin thanked the OCD-6 and Director Jose Roberto Nuñez.
“During disasters, nakahanda gid pirme ang OCD magbulig sa probinsiya sang Guimaras,” he said.
As of June 6, Guimaras had 109 active COVID-19 cases, data from the Department of Health Region 6 showed.
Eleven Guimarasnons have died due to COVID-19 since the pandemic started last year.
“Actually indi lang Guimaras ang nahatagan bugas. Ang una nga gintagaan was Iloilo City since una sila nag-request because of the modified enhanced community quarantine there. Damo nga barangays ang locked down. OCD-6 gave 500 sacks of rice to Iloilo City,” said Ferrer.
Yesterday, OCD-6 also released 200 sacks of rice to Roxas City, and another 200 to Capiz province./PN
