SAN JOSE, Antique – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) turned over the P36 million regional evacuation center to the local government in this capital town.
“The evacuation center, aside from San Jose de Buenavista, could also be used by other towns in times of disaster,” said OCD assistant secretary Casiano Monilla after the turning over ceremony on Thursday.
The LGU of San Jose will now manage the center, to be monitored by the OCD, as stipulated in their Memorandum of Agreement.
Monilla said the center could be used as a multi-purpose hall during normal days.
“We intend also to put non-food items such as kitchen utensils and personal hygiene kits ready to be used by the evacuees,” he said.
Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train said the evacuation center is on a safe ground despite its location near a coastal area in Barangay San Pedro.
The project, started in 2017, was constructed with offices for the OCD, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, the Emergency Management System and a pharmacy. (With a report form PNA/PN)
