AKLAN – In this province, 12,600 families or 49,400 individuals were affected by the widespread destruction of super typhoon “Odette: (international name: Rai).
Over P17-million worth of infrastructure and agriculture were also destroyed, an initial assessment of the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) on Dec. 18 showed.
Only Banga and New Washington towns have so far submitted estimates of damage to their agriculture sector and infrastructure.
New Washington’s seawall was damaged (P16,383,600). Losses in banana, coconut and vegetable crops, on the other hand, reached P761,320.
Also, one person in New Washington sustained typhoon-related injuries, PDRRMC reported.
Seven houses were partially damaged in Buruanga, Banga and New Washington.
Buruanga had the most number of affected individuals (20,905) followed by New Washington (6,821), Nabas (5,285), Malay (2,337), Balete (2,264), and Numancia (2,160).
Typhoon “Odette” also affected residents of Makato (2,108), Tangalan (1,859), Batan (1,172), Kalibo (1,167), Madalag (812), Ibajay (735), Malinao (693), Banga (544), and Libacao (538).
On Dec. 16 and 17, Aklan was under tropical cyclone wind signal No. 2. The Philippine Coast Guard suspended trips for all types of watercraft./PN
