‘ODETTE IN ILOILO PROVINCE’; At least P14-million losses in Iloilo agriculture

ILOILO – The initial estimate of the damage to agriculture here due to super typhoon “Odette” reached P14 million.

One casualty was also reported – 58-year-old Antonio Fajurano of Barangay Malagyan, Miag-ao town and a security guard at the University of the Philippines Visayas – Miag-ao campus.

According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Fajurano was found dead around 4:55 a.m. on Friday. A tree fell on him.

The damage to agriculture and infrastructures could still rise. As of 4 p.m. on Friday, only 25 towns have submitted reports to the PDRRMO.

Iloilo has 42 towns and one component city.

The 25 towns were San Joaquin, Tigbauan, and Guimbal in the 1st District; Alimodian, New Lucena, Leganes, Santa Barbara, and Zarraga in the 2nd District; Pototan, Bingawan, Maasin, and Lambunao in the 3rd District; Dumangas, Passi City, San Enrique, Dueñas, and Anilao in the 4th District; and Ajuy, Lemery, Sara, Carles, San Rafael, Batad, Balasan, and Concepcion in the 5th District.

Here are the estimated damage:

* rice – P7,644,000

* corn – P6,090,000

* other crops (like bananas and papayas) – P32,000

* livestock – P3,000

* poultry and fowls – P6,259

* fishing boats – P710,000

Meanwhile, PDRRMO recorded 274 totally damaged houses and 12,912 partially damaged ones.

Most of these houses were situated in coastal areas. Storm surges and winds caused the damage.

Regarding evacuees, as of 4 p.m. on Friday, there were 8,386 displaced families (32,938 individuals) in evacuation centers.

They were provided with food and essentials.
