ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas will give “kalabasa award” to city hall departments or offices with delayed payroll, especially that of job hire and casual employees.
He is planning to give out the award every Monday’s flag raising ceremony.
Treñas is currently on leave; he is in Thailand, but he is monitoring every department processing the payroll of job hires.
In an interview on March 3, Treñas disclosed many of the offices have already processed the payroll of their job hires.
“It has been reported to me that the payroll of the casuals are all on time,” he said.
He added, “If this goes on I will request my wife to make kalabasa jam and will give batchoy to all departments who are on time (in processing payrolls). Batchoy with puto or with pan de sal.”
The city hall job hires previously complained about their delayed salaries. Some city hall officials taking advantage of the job hires through money lending with illegal conditions surfaced thereafter.
Three officials are currently under probe for such activity.
Atty. Joseph Areño of the City Legal Office, who was tasked by the city mayor to lead the probe, is yet to release the result of his investigation./PN
