MANILA – Ilongga middle blocker Aduke Ogunsaya is headed to a new team ahead of the 2022 Premier Volleyball League season. She agreed to join the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.

The Dumangas, Iloilo native decided to join the Flying Titans after several years of being part of many-time Philippine Superliga champions F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.

The 5-foot-9 Ogunsaya’s latest move to the professional ranks also means she is foregoing her final year of eligibility with the De La Salle University Lady Spikers in the UAAP.

Ogunsaya, a two-time UAAP women’s volleyball champion with DLSU, is expected to fill the gap left by Madeleine Madayag, who is out for several months due to anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The decision to join Choco Mucho also allowed Ogunsaya to team-up with former UAAP rivals Kat Tolentino, Bea de Leon, Deanna Wong and Pauline Gaston, all formerly of Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles.

Aside from the Ilongga volleybelle, the Flying Titans also announced on Friday the acquisition of former Adamson University Lady Falcons libero Tonnie Rose “Thang” Ponce.

The 5-foot-2 Bataan native became a free agent with the decision of Perlas Spikers to take a leave. She will serve as back-up to Choco Mucho’s veteran Denden Lazaro-Revilla.

Ogunsaya and Ponce were the fourth and fifth recruits of the Flying Titans this offseason after earlier signing Maria Lina “Isa” Molde, Jemenea Ferrer and Cherry Nunag.

Choco Mucho also hinted in their social media accounts on Friday that they are set to unveil more new players in the coming days.

The Flying Titans were aiming to bounce back from its third place finish during the 2021 PVL Open Conference in Ilocos Norte in a tournament where they finished on top after the eliminations before faltering in the semifinals./PN
