KALIBO, Aklan – Dr. Ernesto Servillon Jr. was reappointed officer-in-charge of the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Aklan.

Servillon will continue leading the division “until a schools division superintendent has been appointed” or his designation is revoked, Education secretary Leonor Briones said in an order dated Aug. 8.

It was not immediately clear why Briones did not reinstate Dr. Jessie Gomez as schools division superintendent.

Servillon took over DepEd-Aklan on May 12 after Gomez was preventively suspended for 90 days due to an administrative charge.

“As officer-in-charge, you (Servillon) are entitled to the representation and transportation allowance (RATA), except the salary of the position,” Briones said.

An officer-in-charge enjoys limited powers to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of services and efficient day-to-day operations of a government office in the absence of a regular incumbent.

The designation order authorized Servillon to sign communications and approve appointments delegated to schools division superintendents under Department Orders No. 29 series of 1975, No. 1 series of 2003, No. 66 series of 2008, No. 41 series of 2009, and No. 67 series of 2016.
